enviromix Production Process - Our state-of-the-art facilities for processing green organics to the highest and cleanest standards.
The enviromix process completes the carbon cycle by taking green organic wastes from gardens and the landscape industry and microbiologically composting them to clean, pasteurized mulches, soil conditioners, potting mixes, garden soils and top dresses that return carbon and rich levels of beneficial micro flora & fauna to the soil. Our process of chipping, initiating, blending, composting, screening and re-blending ensures that we produce a very consistent range of products from a seasonally changing range of green organic inputs.
The sealed concrete composting pad ensures unsurpassed hygienic control of the process and optimum aeration and drainage for the culture of beneficial microbial decomposition. Our facilities and process prevent anaerobic conditions that change microbiology to the harmful and mean that all enviromix products are a live culture of beneficial soil microbiology.
Inspection & Decontamination of Green Organics.
Green Organic Material received from landscapers, maintenance contractors, councils and kerbside collections is inspected and rubbish and contaminants are physically removed before further processing.
Chipping & Initiation.
The cleaned green organic feed stock is chipped to reduce all material to a maximum dimension of <150mm after which it is aerobically dry piled to initiate a slow microbial process to commence breakdown plant waxes and oils and build microbial populations. The initiation period produces a more consistent feedstock to the blending process.
Blending.
The pasteurizing green organic feed stock is then selected and blended through the continuous aerating blender with the addition of selected nutrients, mineral zeolite and water to achieve optimum moisture content, air porosity and nutrient initiation in the mixture. The blending plant is an important process in producing consistent quality compost windrows and allows the addition of mineral zeolite which traps and holds valuable nutrients released through the windrow decomposition phase and significantly reduces odour through the process and for the end user. The blending plant is a unique stage in the enviromix process that ensures rapid microbiological colonization and pasteurization when the resultant blend enters the windrow stage.
Windrow Pasteurization.
The blended mixture is then formed into windrows where it is kept aerobic by regular turning and temperature monitored to ensure pasteurization over 3 weeks. The balance of air, water, nutrients and particle size within each windrow promotes rapid aerobic microbial activity, and the increasing population of microorganisms generates heat. The internal temperature of each windrow reaches a minimum of 60 C which is sufficient to substantially destroy pathogenic microorganisms, insects, propagative plant material and most seeds but leaving in place healthy populations of beneficial microflora.
Windrow Composting.
Using pasteurized windrows as the basic product, most production is further composted for another 3-6 weeks through the late active and mature stages of composting. During this further composting time the windrows are aerated, watered if required and temperature monitored until they reach stability.
Windrow Curing.
Some mature production is further cured in windrows for addition to specialty products.
Screening.
Windrow materials are screened through the barrel screen into specific size grades which are then used as ingredients to formulate various marketable products such as soil conditioners, mulches, potting mixtures, topsoil equivalents and allied products for use in land maintenance and container plant cultivation for a large range of plants and trees.
Batching; Finished product manufacture.
The EnviromixTM Batching Plant is used to produce all product formulations requiring the mixing of more than one physical component. The computer controlled weighing and batch mixing system ensures consistent top quality products made to exacting formulas. As a result of our controlled process the products we offer are -
- Weed Seed Free
- Composted to Australian Standards
- Consistent High Quality
- Properly Mixed
- Free of Contaminants to Australian Standards
Laboratory testing.
enviromix constantly test and monitor product as it moves through the whole process and tests final products in their own laboratory to ensure consistent quality to Australian Standards for Mulches, Soil Conditioners and Potting Mixes.
